Serving the people of Shepshed

In 1986 there was an increasing need to provide transport for the elderly and disabled in Shepshed. This was decided by representatives of many longstanding organisations set up to support the elderly, disabled and other deprived groups. It was decided that a community minibus committee should be formed with the aim of arranging fundraising events and that a group would later be set up to organize the scheme of using the transport, garaging, maintenance, servicing etc. On April 29th 1985 the Committee to raise funds for the project was elected from representatives of The Rotary Club, Vine House, Parish Council and many more organisations. They received many donations from Shepshed lady's darts team, Local police force, The Round Table and many other donations were kindly received. On June 6th 86 they did it, they raised £12'000 and purchased a 15-seater Volkswagen LT31 which was converted to accommodate six wheelchairs. To this day the running costs still have to be paid for, more fundraising efforts are being planned continuously to keep this much needed service for the Shepshed residents and surrounding villages afloat. The SSCB committee would like to thank everybody who continues to support us with donations and gifts for prizes towards our project 😊
